When you think about social media there is not just one application or platform that comes to mind because there are so many out there and so many that we ourselves personally use. And a lot of times the issue with these applications is that they take up a lot of space in our phone. So, when the time comes when something new has arrived we realize to download the new application we need to delete something off of our phone that we love. And no one is ever ready to do that. So it is better to find more functionality within one application than spending all your time looking for new ones. You need to use the applications you already have in your phone to their full potential or what is the point?

So where does Snapchat lie in all of this? While we know Snapchat clearly is not a necessity we somehow cannot seem to part with it anyway; especially if you fall in the millennial generation. The reason why Snapchat has maintained its user market so well is because of the simple design which makes sharing feel completely natural. And add to that the assurance that whatever you share on this application will be deleted after 24 hours and you get a lot of happy users. But be warned that while everything does disappear in 24 hours, if some takes a screenshot while you are notified of it you cannot have them delete it unless they choose to do it themselves.

While there is always the risk of someone taking a screenshot of what you have shared you need not worry since people do understand the premise of Snapchat and adhere from taking screenshots since they know this is not the polite thing to do. This feeling of having a disposable media does not come with any other application no matter how much they try to copy or replicate Snapchat’s interface and features.

The thing which has kept Snapchat successful at what they do is the fact that they are constantly innovating. You will find that Snapchat has changed so much since it was launched in 2011 that if you did not know better you might consider it a completely different application as opposed to what it was when it began. Snapchat has added so many new features and improved upon old ones as time has went on. Initially, you could only send photos, now you can send videos, use your bitmojis which are emojis that look like you and much more. Snapchat has also an option to video chat on Snapchat which has gotten very popular recently and is being used by a lot of people. Usually when the other person is online at the same time as you, Snapchat will ask you to video call them and send a prompt for you to do so. This is a great new feature and we will talk about it in detail below!

We have outlined how you can use this service and how to maximize on its potential. So if you want to use video chat on Snapchat then keep reading because we will tell you exactly how to do so.

Setting it All Up

A lot of people do not know that video chat on Snapchat was actually introduced in 2014 and the version that we use today is the much better and improved one which Snapchat has spend years perfecting and adding to. Initially to video chat on Snapchat, you had to constantly press your finger down on the screen to do so but with updates this necessity has been eradicated.

Over the years, like we said Snapchat has honed its craft and also added to the functionality of their video calls. They have ensured that they give users the best experience possible because they know how important it is to do so. A lot of people do not even realize there is a video chat on Snapchat option when they are chatting away with their friends. But usually it is right in front of your eyes at all times and you need not worry about whether it is hidden somewhere or needs to be activated. And there were probably some instances where you have hit the option by accident and then stared at the screen as it said it was making a video call and then canceled in panic because you had no idea how you started this entire process.

In this article, we are going to tell you how to use video chat on Snapchat to maximize benefit from it. And do not worry, these instructions are valid if you use either Android or iPhone since the interface for Snapchat on both these applications is very similar.

The first thing you should do before you set out to video chat on Snapchat is to make sure that the version of Snapchat you are using is the latest one. While if you have any version after the 2014 one, it is still a good idea to get the latest version since Snapchat is always making changes and adding features to their video chat on Snapchat option so you might want to get the version which is the latest so the video chat feature on it works the best. And it is a good idea to ensure that your friends on Snapchat that you want to video chat with also have the latest version so both of you can experience the best video chat experience Snapchat can provide you with.

Now we tell you how to access video chat on Snapchat. The first thing you need to do is obviously open Snapchat on your phone. Once you have done this and have the view finder on your screen either swipe right to open the chat list or click on the little speech bubble icon on the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you are on the page you will see in descending order the people you first talked to as opposed to the people you last talked to and what communication was exchanged; a picture, a text chat or a video and who sent it. If you see the name of the person who you want to video chat on Snapchat with them swipe right on their name to reveal the chat option with them but if you do not see their name then you can click on the chat option on the upper right corner of the screen and type their name in and once it is displayed on screen click on it.

Options within the Chat

Now that you have the chat you wanted to have open on your phone, you need to look at all the options you have. Look at the bottom of the chat where there is a tray of options for you to choose from. The first option from the left to the right is the gallery option which if chosen lets to send an image from your phone’s photo gallery to the person, the second is the voice call option, after this is the option to send a snap directly into the chat, the next is the video chat on Snapchat option, after which you can choose the stickers options which lets you send bitmojis and other fun and cute stickers.

Now the video chat option as we said earlier is the fourth one from the left so now you can go ahead and choose this option. Now if your friend is indeed available on their end they will get the option to watch and join. So they can either choose watch which does not display their video or let them talk to you; really this is just like them watching a live stream of you and or join which will let the both of you see each other’s video stream and will be fully able to talk to one another.

When you are talking on video chat on Snapchat, you can send emojis, stickers and even activate Snapchat filters so while you talk it is behind the filter! And if you want to minimize the chat, drag you finger from the top to the bottom of the screen and you will have done it. And if you want to maximize the chat again, do the opposite; swipe from the bottom going up. And if you want to lose the video call from your end, you can click on the video camera icon at the top of the screen. And you can do the same with the audio. Both of these icons are in green and you can check them as you please. And if you want to get both of these options back then click on them once again to enable them.

Snapchat is an incredibly diverse application which gives user a lot of options in terms of what they can do. The video chat on Snapchat option is incredibly helpful and can be used for various purposes; to catch up with friends, talk to mom or even for a business meeting! So have fun with Snapchat.
